In the heyday of Sir
Joshua Peter Bell, Jimbour was acknowledged as “the Mecca of
Civilisation on the Darling Downs”. During this time, Jimbour played
host to important scientific and cultural visits – even, on one
occasion, a circus.
In more recent times Jimbour’s role as a cultural centre has revived.
Dalby Regional Arts Council Concerts

Starting in 1976, concerts organized by the Dalby Arts Council have been
held both within the House itself on a twice-yearly basis and, more
recently, a Jazz in the Hangar event has joined the repertoire.
Originally
accommodating about 120 attendees, in recent times the attendance has
increased to the point where two sessions are conducted.
Leading artists including pianists
Piers Lane and
Antony Peebles, groups such as
Spiros
Rantos and
Brachi Tilles ,
and
Viva La Musica
are amongst the artists who have performed at these events.
The August 2004 Concert by Viva La Musica attracted encores at both
performances. The Artists on this occasion comprised Eugenie Costello,
Timothy Munro, Suzie Gregory and Elizabeth Green. Timothy is a
great-great-grandson of Sir Joshua Peter Bell.
Opera at Jimbour

Queensland Music
Festival (then known as the
Queensland Biennial Festival of Music

Jimbour Amphitheatre

events with the completion in 2005 of an amphitheatre to complement the
grounds of Jimbour House.
The Federal Government, Wambo Shire Council, Dalby
Town
Council and Jimbour combined to jointly fund the facility valued at more
than $340,000. A total of $173,000 came from the Federal Government's
Regional Partnerships Program which provides support for local
communities and business who join hands to strengthen local growth
opportunities and improve access to services.
The facility will enable Jimbour and the Councils to showcase major
musical and stage events attracting new visitors to boost the local
economy and the region's tourist industry. The first major event to be
staged, the 2005 "Opera at Jimbour" was a standing ovation success and
attracted an audience of 6,000.
Visitors can combine their stay in the region with the enjoyment of
